About Upper Eyelid Lifts
An upper eyelid lift removes excess skin, fat, and muscle from the upper eyelids for a smoother appearance. Although an upper eyelid lift can enhance your complexion and address some of the other issues associated with sagging facial skin above the eyes. (1) As you age and the collagen in your skin declines, you may notice droopy skin and wrinkles impacting how you look and feel about your age.
You may also notice volume loss around the eyes and changes in the position of your eyelid crease. (2) Heavy-looking eyelids can affect your self-esteem and may create an excessively tired appearance. With an eyelid lift, you can achieve natural-looking results that enhance your facial features.
Quad Eyelid Lift
If you have droopy skin and/or puffy, excess fat beneath your eyes, we can perform a lower eyelid lift during your procedure for a fresher, brighter appearance. The combination of procedures is known as a quad eyelid lift. Dr. Zarrabi can make a thin incision inside the lower eyelids to reposition the fat pads beneath your eyes and remove excess tissue. Repositioning the fat pads beneath your eyes can also reduce the appearance of under-eye bags.

Preparation
To prepare for an upper eyelid lift, you will need to stop smoking for approximately 6 – 8 weeks before and after your procedure, if this is applicable to you. You will also need to stop taking certain medications and supplements that thin the blood; Dr. Zarrabi will provide you with a detailed list of these substances during your personal consultation.
Although you can return home for the bulk of your recovery, you will need to ask someone you trust to drive you home. We recommend that someone stays with you for 24-48 hours after your procedure to help you with tasks during this initial phase. Please arrive in clothing you feel comfortable in, without jewelry, and with clean skin. You should avoid wearing makeup, gel, mousse, or hairspray to your appointment.
Procedure
During your procedure, we will cleanse your skin and administer the proper anesthesia. Dr. Zarrabi will make guiding markings on the skin and then proceed to make discreet incisions along the natural crease of your upper eyelids. He will remove excess skin and can also readjust the underlying fat to help you achieve a smoother, more awake appearance. He can tighten your skin as well for smoother, more youthful eyelids. Afterward, he will close the incisions with sutures and you can carry out your recovery at home when you are cleared to leave.
Recovery
During your recovery, you will recommend that you take several steps to help your skin heal properly. It is common to experience some minor skin irritation and bruising, which Dr. Zarrabi may prescribe you medication for. It is important that you try to sleep with your head elevated while you recover to reduce swelling. Following up with Dr. Zarrabi will allow him to monitor your progress and answer any questions you may have.
It can take a few weeks to heal from this procedure. You will need to avoid intense exercise and other strenuous activities while you are healing, until Dr. Zarrabi indicates it is an appropriate time to resume. Many patients enjoy minimal downtime and smoother, brighter-looking eyes once they’ve fully healed.
Results
After an upper eyelid lift, you can enjoy a more youthful, rested look. The incisions are discreet and will likely significantly fade with time. Since Dr. Zarrabi makes incisions along natural folds, you can enjoy a natural-looking result. Patients often report feeling more confident and satisfied with their appearance after an upper blepharoplasty. We always recommend that you wear sunscreen and use the right products for your skin type after your eyelids heal. Following a consistent skincare routine and protecting your skin can help you maintain smoother, more youthful-looking eyes. We can also recommend non-surgical treatments for maintaining your results.
Facelift Treatment
If you are starting to notice signs of facial aging such as droopy jowls and sagging skin, we can help you achieve a more youthful complexion with a facelift. During a facelift, we can make a thin incision near your hairline to reposition your skin and remove excess tissue for a smoother appearance. Like a blepharoplasty, the incisions will be well-hidden among the natural features of your skin. By combining a facelift with an upper eyelid lift, we can take a more comprehensive approach to addressing the effects of aging and/or facial volume loss.
